This is a secret part of the process of a job in the whole nation was difficult for a longer period. What some job seekers may not realize, that successful people, the unemployed will not dwell on the loss – the transition to a professional field, where growth and opportunity.

The five basic advice to all candidates can use and also for their personal situation.

1st Look for opportunities that are of interest and use your previous experience.

Applicants should consider their “transferable skills”, all these jobs before that did all their skills set. Never mind that a career Outlook not align not with the personality of a person. Think you made the transition process as a conscious decision for the long term.

2nd Major decisions of career transition may take some time – to avoid bruising.

A candidate may find that they face too many opportunities that do not fit their parameters. It is normal to go the wrong option. Every candidate should focus with a thorough understanding of their professional goals and then implement a strategic plan to achieve them. Opportunities arise, but they can not be entirely right or best choices. Qualify opportunities, depending on your situation.

3rd After a true understanding of professional skills.

An entry-level candidate is not just short-term goal in the direction, without moving the requisite training and experience. A person who was earning $ 30,000 per year may in a particular area not wait for their next employer to pay more than the median average wage for the position. Honesty is always the best policy in a career transition.

4th Knowledge of current qualifications, and they are consistent with the goals ..

What ever enter the field or industry a job seeker plans, one thing is sure to change. It may be necessary to take a course or two at a college or university. Including the acquisition of certification may be beneficial or is through the rental agency. Some professionals have the licensing state to perform their work. Research for a new career for a successful transition is essential.

5th Image is everything.

I remembered the story of Trish, a former colleague. I had not forgotten because it was the catalyst for a new strategy for career advancement that I developed.

In my various roles of human resources, I advise my clients to consider a series of strategies for self-promotion to advance their careers. Accordingly, the case study below, I developed a new strategy to take the initiative to ensure that employees of the company, they are updated by the file Department of Human Resources and Then in their employee file a precis of all new skills, qualifications or experience they gained. This is important if they do not want to be overlooked for a promotion, apply for specific projects, a fair compensation for a good reference and precise, and as we continue to see the “real” case study work.

Case Study

Jill graduated from a period of 8 years. She earned a double degree in commerce and information technology. However, it is a very private person and in their company knew they study. After obtaining Jill stayed in the same job where their skills are not used, even if she had applied for certain jobs outside their company

Fusion and a new direction for the service, the company had raised for a year, and the cuts seemed inevitable. Jill thought she could be maintained, in fact, she seemed confident and he has never been discussed. Then one day came the bad news. She has been released.

The decision was regarding the application forms and other data in the files of the employees “such as professional development courses attended, performed tasks in more traffic, made for example. In addition, supervisors and employees were interviewed were evaluated based on new criteria. Jill has been a less qualified to sneak in a new organizational structure and systems will be installed.

Trish Jill and I asked about this unfair procedure. Certainly, complaints must be heard. We were outraged and said, “they can not do that.” But after further questioning Jill, the creation of several dams facts.

When Jill told his supervisor on his competency, the supervisor was very surprised. She recalled that representatives of workers Jill cases were discussed at meetings, and employees have had the opportunity to update. Do not come only Jill missed that meeting was a memorandum to remind employees in mind that upgrading their employees file their own interest and Jill took no action. Now arbitrary decisions have been made and there were no complaints.

We agreed with the opinion that his boss had given him every chance to secure their place in the new system, but made no effort to promote themselves and show they could make a positive contribution to the “new order “as they were.

By the way, we asked about performance appraisals, and apparently the company did not execute.

Shortly after this incident, I made my contacts with research in human resource management and found that although the staff of HRM has kept most of the files updated as necessary to their employees and training provided by society if they are not thinking about the benefits of an employee by the gain would be self-promotion, using their own personnel files updated.

Human resource managers in small businesses do not think it was important. However, the HR managers in large companies, thought it was a good idea of how the authorities have more time to time, review the skills of current employees “and experience and I wanted the statistical evaluation of certain performance criteria.

Most of my contacts have agreed that it would be useful to have a complete employment file if you would be asked for references or information about previous employees. Some people thought that many former employees had lied about their qualifications, skills and experiences that do not correspond with their job descriptions and other data in its files.

Surprisingly, 50% of staff confirmed by large enterprises and employment records are often used when people have higher wages and tested before being eligible for funding.

Jill may have had a future in the new social structure, if they had been active and ensure that their employees file has been updated regularly to their qualifications, training or to reflect the results obtained inside and outside of work were relevant to their employment status.

Although the company would have a better management of human resources by conducting regular performance appraisals, the extent to which other relevant information and Jill may have uncovered practiced, after all, she was solely responsible for its restriction n ‘ is not proactively managing their careers, and to let others decide for their future.

Career self-management is controlled by the concerned individual and includes certain plans and information applicable for future career decision-making and problem solving. It is comprised of continuously improving the existent conditions at the present work place and preparing yourself for a change. Career self-management and organizational career management are not restricted and can actually help to promote each other.

Common Misconceptions

Listed below are some of the common misconceptions about career management:

Most people think that the most skilled candidate is likely to be selected. However, this is not true. Candidates with limited qualifications avail of a number of job opportunities because of the way they prepare and present themselves. In short, they self-market themselves in the required manner. Being skilled or qualified is not the only criteria. You must be able to convince the employer that you are the most suitable candidate for the job.

Most people feel that as long as they already have a job, they don’t really need to work on their careers. Again, this not true. Whether or not you are employed currently, you should be prepared for change, in whatever form. To steer clear of any career-related disasters, you should implement the concept of “Perpetual Career Management” to enhance your career growth.

Professional education should not stop when you graduate. You should always explore ways to increase your knowledge. You should be constantly updating your skills via journals, seminars and pursuing certifications. These choices should be a part of your consistent career development effort.

Don’t be under the misconception that your job is secure if you work hard and do a good job. With current mergers, outsourcing, downsizing and an unstable economy, there is no job that is entirely secure. You must be fully responsible for the future prospects of your chosen career.

What Graduates Have In Store For Them

Organizations in the United States and other developed countries have been following a trend of employing only the best university graduates to prepare them for future leadership within the organization. However, apprehensions about the proceeds in investing long-term in career development has led many organizations to wonder if this conventional stress on the management of graduate careers should be continued. Employers are now wondering whether they should promote self-management or whether they should continue with the traditional methods of career management.

Similarly, graduates are also faced with a problem. They need to decide whether they should engage in self-management or whether they need to adhere and prepare for the traditional methods already in use. Organizational commitment is important in shaping the responses to career development practices and in acting as chief indicators of the influence of these practices.

Nevertheless, there has been very little research done to sufficiently investigate the impact of career management practices, in spite of the evidence that these practices are capable of making a positive contribution.
